Have you ever been to Maastricht? If not, you should definitely pay a visit to this small medieval paradise. While living in the Netherlands, I had the chance to visit the city quite a few times and the atmosphere there is absolutely relaxing! Maastricht is said to be one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands, fact that you can easily discover once you start strolling through its city center. The city is full of churches, medieval architecture buildings, big squares, parks and open markets where you can find literally everything.

The city offers a great variety of sightseeing options, museums, basilica style churches, cultural centers, coffeeshops and whatever comes to mind; however, walking by the river is one of my personal favorites! Specifically, there’s a bridge, called St. Servaasbrug. This bridge is a splendid seven-arched 13th century bridge and is a typical symbol for the city of Maastricht. Sounds nice right? Listen to my advice and take a walk by the river, crossing of course this bridge. The view offered is absolutely splendid!

If you’re looking for a nice place to spend your evening, you should definitely dedicate some time to the Vrijthof square! The square is well-known for its many cafes, terraces and out-door events. The ambience on the square is almost magical. Enjoy the outdoor cafes with a nice wine or have a fine beer on the Vrijthof! Don’t forget to visit the Beautiful Basilica of St. Servatius Basilica, yeah it’s breathtaking!

Furthermore, if you are one of those people who love wandering around when they visit a new city, then you should definitely pass by the city’s park and enjoy its facilities and attractions. Maastricht’s park is divided in several zones in which you may encounter multiple alternative activities; like in every park, you can spend a day sunbathing while reading a book, you can go running or exercise your favorite sports, but at the same time you can go “birdwatching” since there’s a bird aviary situated right in the middle of the park. In addition, do not freak out if you see some deers wandering around you; yes there’s a deer camp in the park that welcomes thousands of tourists every year! It’s really beautiful! The park is also offered for sightseeing since there are a few parts where you’ll be able to admire old remnants of Mastricht’s walls, offered for great photoshootings!
