A winter getaway in the north ; 3-5 Pigadia & Naoussa

If you’re traveling in the Northern Greece and you consider yourself a "snow or nature aficionado", then get ready to keep some notes! After exploring the majestic and at the same time traditional beauty of Agios Athanasios and Kaimaktsalan, then Naoussa -which can be found in a close proximity- and the snow resort of 3-5 Pigadia, are sure not to be missed!

The ski center 3-5 Pigadia is situated 108km away from Thessaloniki, and only a few km away from the town of Naoussa. Once there, you will find yourself in a lovely natural environment that includes 7 lifts, 10 tracks and installations for artificial snow. At an elevation ranging from 1,430 to 2,005 m, the snow resort of 3-5 Pigadia, boasts some of the most modern snow facilities that can be found in Greece. Ideal for the adrenalin junkies, the ski resort includes a variety of ski tracks for each degree of difficulty; from cross country ski runs (langlauf) to elevated and baby lifts.

Since the beginning of ‘80s, "Pigadia" has been established as a centre of preparation of athletic teams, mainly because of its marvellous climate and exceptional natural environment. The athletic infrastructures include a football field, gym, indoor heated swimming-pool, sauna and other auxiliary installations.

Naoussa

Once in the area and after having visited the ski resort mentioned above, you shouldn’t miss out on exploring the municipality’s capital, Naoussa.  The city used to be quite popular, since it enjoyed great prosperity, constituting for centuries a significant textile center. It is said to be one of the most beautiful cities of the north, built in the Eastern fringes of the imposing mountain, Vermion. What makes Naoussa unique, is the fact that it combines the beauty of nature and simplicity with the astonishing mountain views and altitude, offering that way a rich mesh of extreme sports &  activities to its visitors. While there, you should definitely enjoy the traditional neighbourhoods and sights of the city, by beginning at the Municipal Park, that can be found right at the entrance of the city! Of course, the city offers a variety of bars, typical restaurants and taverns that will definitely please your appetite at the end of the day!

Edessa

Last but not least, if you’re looking for an extra recommendation, then Edessa should also be added to your list! Edessa, also known as the city of the “waters”, is a city in northern Greece and the capital of the Pella regional unit, in the Central Macedonia region of Greece. The city is known for its stunning rivers and waterfalls, while its name, literally means “tower/city in the water”. If you’re a fan of outdoor activities and extreme sports, then Edessa is the place to be! Edessa offers plenty of activities, such as trekking, horse riding and archery. In addition, those who feel more adventurous can even try rafting!
