Aguas Calientes allows you to be one with nature, not only for the green of its surroundings but also because of the crystal-clear thermal waters of its river, that is wonderfully flowing around your body.

Aguas Calientes

Aguas Calientes is a small town within a Bolivian region called Chiquitania, an area with wonderful nature and warm weather, located in the eastern extreme of Bolivia.

The river that runs near the town is also called Aguas Calientes and it is not a common one: it is a thermal river.

The name Aguas Calientes literally means "Warm Waters" in Spanish. This warm water runs for several kilometers along the river. It has a high concentration of healthy minerals and provides beneficial properties for people with rheumatism or arthritis- besides, of course, having positive effects for the skin.

To make your experience more enjoyable, avoid the rainy season - from December to February. In Aguas Calientes, it is never cold: the temperature in "winter" is perfect. If, on the contrary, you find yourself there during a hot period, the best option to enjoy the thermal river is during the night and sunrise, when the temperature is not too high.

The Hervores

The river is not deep at all, but it might be that while you are walking along with it, you will get suddenly sucked in by the earth. Do not worry; you will sink only half-meter approximately. Those natural holes under the river, where you might suddenly find yourself in, are called hervores and are the sprouts from where the warm water runs from the underground to the river.

The hervores are big enough for one person to fit in each of them. If you remain inside one, nature will give you a relaxing hydromassage with warm water, accompanied by a sand exfoliation.

Magic nights in Aguas Calientes

Imagine a night with perfect mild weather. You are only surrounded by nature, listening to the peaceful sound of the leaves playing with the wind, accompanied by the sound of some wild night birds. At the same time, a clear sky shows the Milky Way at its best. The air you breathe is as pure as the surroundings. And you enjoy it all relaxed, lying in mineral warm and crystal-clear water coming out straight from the earth, with some small fish swimming around you. That is the exact description of a night in Aguas Calientes hot springs... so just allow yourself to be one with nature!

The wonderful sunrise in Aguas Calientes

Waking up early is a great idea in Aguas Calientes: at that moment, the beautiful layer of steam covering the river's surface looks better than ever. There is no better and more relaxed way to start the day in Aguas Calientes than being in the perfectly tempered water while enjoying the panorama and the music of nature! The sun comes up!
