This one will be a great entry on the encyclopedia of summer lovers! Today we are going to check a parish of Algarve that is very sought-after in the summer. As with other entries on this series, there will be list of all the beaches in this parish below, and some of them are described in detail to give you an idea of the different settings you can find. So here we go, to the incredible sandstrips of Tavira!
Tavira is a true marvel of the Algarve coast. It offers the incredible natural atmosphere of Ria Formosa along with huge sandstrips located in islands which are fun to get to, by boat or train, and of course the obligatory warm waters! In the summer, locals and tourists flock here to get the most out of these spectacular beaches, and because the sandstrips are enourmous, it is easy to find just the right spot for everyone.
Praia do Barril is one of the favourites of Tavira, and with good reason. It is located in the marvellous Ria Formosa, with an atmosphere of great biodiversity. Its sandstrip is big, with dunes extending along, and as usual in Algarve, the waters are great. Getting here can be a fun stroll if take you the train that connects the main land to this beach. Also, you can't miss the 'anchor cemetery' that is a staple of the place. Praia do Barril is recognized as a naturist beach, so its perfect for those looking for some privacy too!
Above is the lovely Praia da Ilha de Tavira, a very long sandstrip sititng in Ilha de Tavira island, one of the many sandy islets you can find along this part of the coast. In the summer, it gets a lot of attention, but it never gets crowded. It is a beach for everyone, those who don't mind a bit of commotion and those who look for a tranquil spot. Either way, the water is clear and warm, the sights are great, and the lovely Ria Formosa is just by!
This beach sits at the eastern limit of Ilha de Cabanas, where the waters of Ria Formosa and the atlantic sea cause the sandy island to continuosly change its shape. Praia do Lacém is located here, at the Lacém canal, which is not always visible. This is an unsupervised beach, where untouched nature follows its course and offers beautiful sights. Getting here from the nearby popular beaches can be a nice walk, and you will find that this peaceful sandstrip is just as fantastic!
