Great news for all the arts lovers! Have you heard that you will have an amazing opportunity to see the greatest graphic art by key American pop arts artists - Andy Warhol, Roi Liechtenstein, Robert Rausenberg, John Chambell, James Rosenquist, and Tom Veselman, and not only in Madrid. These amazing masterpieces will be presented at the American Pop Art exhibition from January 12 to March 12 in the at the Heritage House (Kuca Legata) in Knez Mihailova street, Belgrade.

The works of American pop art icons have reached its peak in the 1960s but their popularity, the way of artistic expression and shaking societal norms is still present today. Consisting of more than 100 works created in various techniques, the exhibition is inspired by everyday life and trivial motifs in the art form. With their controversial work, pop art artists have opened many societal issues of artist status, the relationship between contemporary life and contemporary art, as well as, in my opinion, mass opinion and entertainment. The exhibition comprises original works which are originally exhibited at Milan-based gallery Visconti Fine Art, while the Central European Cultural Center Novi Sad realized its production in Belgrade.

The exhibition was opened by the US Ambassador to Serbia, Kyle Scott. He explained the 1960s of America as a period of a great change, mainly involving the technological, demographic and industrial boom. Consequently, Americans had easier access to industrial products, such as a TV set. Therefore, culture of consumerism became a vital aspect of their life.

These artists, whose work is exhibited here today, are a product of that consumerism, just as I am a product of baby boom. The US Ambassador to Serbia, Kyle Scott.

Finally, if you are not that art savvy, I would warmly suggest you to check out some interesting facts before visiting the exhibition. For instance, great designer Roy Lichtenstein was simply inspired by comic books he was reading. Today he is the leading figure in the pop art movement and his masterpieces are a paradigm of parody of the world we live in through pop art. The illustrator Tom Wesselmann became famous for his collages and sculptures that praised the female figure. You probably have all heard of Andy Warhol? Well, he was initially hired to design shoe ads. Today, Mr. Warhol has a worldwide popularity due to his famous portraits of American celebrities, mainly the iconic portrait of Marilyn Monroe. And guess what, there is way more to that. So what are you waiting for? Hope to see you all there.
