When you hear of Cyprus the first thing that comes to mind is beach, sun, summer, nature and of course, the goddess of beauty Aphrodite.

As you saw previously, Paphos is very famous for its "Aphrodite's rock" and of course for all the Greek mythology drawn to it. From the villas of Dionysus, to the rock of legend -where Aphrodite first appeared-, Paphos invites you to discover all the mythological sites hidden in the area.

Soooo, what if I tell you that you can visit the waterfalls of Adonis and Aphrodite?

Adonis Baths & Waterfalls

Located 12 kilometers away from Paphos and only 2 kilometers from Kili village in Paphos district, Adonis baths are no doubt worth visiting. They can be accessed by car or for the extreme sports lovers, by bike!

The waterfall was formed due to the waters of the surrounding ravines. The years passed and the water has eroded the soil, creating a small lake. It brings in mind a little secret private island, where you can hide and swim on your own, in a private lake. Also the scenery reminds a lot of Samothraki, that is said to be a hidden and unspoiled natural paradise, with a lot of waterfalls and “private” natural lakes.

According to Greek Mythology, these waterfalls are where Aphrodite and Adonis were spending most of their time together, as well as where they had conceived their children. Based on this, people from Paphos claim themselves to be "offsprings of these two lovers". Adonis baths are also the place, where Adonis died accidentally. A man that was disguised as a wild boar, has accidentally stabbed Adonis and the wood was so deep that he basically died immediately. Adonis died in the arms of his beloved one, while she was praying and begging the gods for him to be sent to back to earth.

As Adonis has this bath named after him, so does Aphrodite. The baths of Aphrodite are located in the other side of Paphos, close to the fishing village of Latchi, in Akamas Peninsula.

 Aphrodite's Baths

It is an idyllic place, -exactly as  Adonis baths- with a waterfall and a “private” natural lake. Those baths are hidden through the green foliage and fig trees. Also, a bank located outside of the hidden lake, is ideal if you're looking for some rest after your bath. It's the perfect place to enjoy the peaceful and natural surroundings.

Based on the mythology, this place is where Aphrodite was having her bath, in the pools of the natural cave. It is said that if you take a bath in this natural pool, you'll become more fertile; a lot of people have restored their fertility after swimming in this water (or at least they say so...). Unfortunately, nowadays it is prohibited to enter the water, but you can definitely admire all the beauty of this place, while walking on the naturalistic trails of Akamas.
