Cultural events are an important part of any travel. Russia is world-famous for its ballet dances. Moscow and St. Petersburg theaters give wonderful performances during theatrical seasons. But what about Siberian cities? If you think that Siberia is not cultural enough for such a refined form of art as ballet, I’d like to assure you that you might be wrong. If you travel around Krasnoyarsk and happen to be near its Opera and Ballet Theater, don’t hesitate to see the ballet dance performances like no other!

What is ballet for Russians?

But first of all, let me present to you the idea of Russian ballet if you are not familiar with it. We are very proud of our ballet because we know that Russian dancers are the best in the entire world. So, what is the idea behind the very notion of the word "ballet"? It is the highest form of choreography, where dancers express the content of the performance through certain moves that correspond to the music. The term "ballet" appeared in the 16th century in Italy. It meant a "short dance episode performed on stage". In Russia, ballet became one of the characteristic features of art and a must-see for the travelers coming to Russia.

Ballet in Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theater

There is one specific place I recommend visiting to enjoy this particular form of dance art in Krasnoyarsk. I am talking about Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theater of Dmitriy Hvorostovsky, an opera singer born in this city. Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theater was named after him in 2018. The theater was opened on the 20th of December, 1976. It was a huge step in the cultural life of Krasnoyarsk, and nowadays, it is one of the most visited places in the city. Krasnoyarsk citizens adore the theater and visit it for various creative workshops of famous Russian artists, performers, and dancers.

In its history, this theater hosted different events on its stage: from the festival to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Dmitriy Shostakovich (a famous Soviet pianist), to Giuseppe Verdi festival and All-Russia Ballet Contest (the first in Siberia). The Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theater troupe is known not only in Krasnoyarsk but also abroad. The troupe had successful performances in Portugal, Spain, Norway, Belgium, Japan, Mexico, Taiwan, and the USA. The public, as well as ballet reviewers, met all the ballet performances with high praise.

Visit Krasnoyarsk to catch the beginning of a new theatrical season

If you want to enjoy ballet performances in Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theater, it is worth remembering that a theatrical season starts in September and ends in the last days of June. So, if you are going to see ballet dance performances like no other in Krasnoyarsk, book your tickets in any other season except for summer!
