Celebrate Valentine's Day in June in Pedra Azul

The 'Pedra Azul Forest Reserve' became the 'Parque Estadual da Pedra Azul' in 1991 to protect the Atlantic Forest ecosystem that occupies an area of 12.4 square kilometers. In fact, only 5% of this extension can be visited.

The name Pedra Azul was given because, depending on the incidence of sunlight, the stone can change color: it often becomes blue or green and even yellow. It is also known as Pedra do Lagarto, due to its lizard-shape rock, as you can see below.

There are two main routes visitors can take. If you are short on time, you can pick the low trails at the base of Pedra Azul, where you can see the lizard-shape rock from a very close viewpoint. It takes about 1h30min to go and return.  

But if you have more time and you want to check out the natural pools on the rocks, you will certainly enjoy a lot more your visit! It takes about 3 hours, and you can also have a refreshing bath amid this paradisiacal setting.

If you want to visit Parque Estadual da Pedra Azul, you will have to schedule it at least one day in advance. In fact, a forest ranger must accompany you during the entire route. The park is open for visitors from Tuesday to Sunday, and the tours start at 9 am or at 1:30 pm.
