Château Vartely: the cherished wine of Moldova

Wineries are quite widespread in the Republic of Moldova because winemaking plays a huge role in the economy of our country. Château Purcari, Cricova Winery, Milesti Mici Winery have already been mentioned on Itinari. However, we have lots of other wineries that should be discovered not only by the residents of Moldova. If you come to Moldova, don't forget to go to the Orhei city and its cherished Château Vartely wines. It is quite a young company but has already become one of the real symbols of Moldova.

The wine, made with love since 2004

History of the winery dates back to 1996 when the "Chateau Vartely" company was established. It took eight years to build the winery, design it, plant the vineyards and start marketing. Thus, in 2004, the winery was officially opened in the city of Orhei. Its slogan was created and until now is - “The wine, made with love for you”, which reflects the work with the soul of everyone, who takes part in the winemaking in this chateau. When the winery was opened, the first wines were produced from the harvest of 2004. It became a real phenomenon in the Moldavian wine economy because of its quality. The touristic complex that includes a hotel and a restaurant was opened in the 2008 year, some 50 kilometers away from our capital - Chisinau.

A place of the fortress

There is an interesting etymology in regards to the brand's name - "Chateau Vartely". "Vartely" comes from the Hungarian language and means "a place of the fortress". The winery itself is located on a limestone hill and fully uses the natural abilities of this space. Thus, it keeps the optimal temperature inside of its basements, starting from the winery and ending with the restaurant. In the chateau, you can enjoy professional tours and real wine degustation, with all of the traditional rules. The main degustation room keeps their own wine collection. However, in a second room, you can find the collection of wines from all over the world. After the tasting, you can eat delicious dishes in the restaurant or even extend your stay in one of the villas on the territory of the winery. 

Innovative, but traditional winemaking

Being a young company, if to compare it to the other wineries, Château Vartely is developing quite fast. Winemakers use the latest technologies in the process of grapes cultivation. Chateau manages to work in an innovative but, at the same time,  traditional way, combining the opposites and creating the quality wine. The winery has a lot of awards, which include the following ones: Mondial de Bruxelles, Mundus Vini, Vinalies Internationales, Decanter, International Wine & Spirits Competition, Sakura, Citta del Vino, International Wine Challenge and many others. Vineyard areas of the Château Vartely allow the company to grow a huge variety of grape species: Chardonnay, Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc, Traminer, Feteasca Regala from white grapes and Pinot noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Raranagre, Malbec, Feteasca Neagra, Syrah from the red ones. 

Château Vartely is a young winery, but it successfully combines the standards of the old and new ways of winemaking. It quickly became the cherished symbol of Moldova and continues to produce unique and quality wine.
