Biobío

Located in the centre of Chile, the Biobio region is the second most populous region in this country, after the Metropolitana de Santiago region. Despite being affected by many devastating earthquakes (as many other parts of Chile), the Biobio region and its people always managed to get back on their feet and re-collect their strengths....

This is the area that produces more than 40% of the country’s forest-related products: wood, paper, material for agriculture and fertilizers. Also, 50% of the Chilean fleet is to be found in the Biobio ports and waters, shaping more than 30% of the Chilean fishing economy. The many rivers that run through this region also play an important role in providing the country with hydro-electrical power and energy. A part of the world that breaths dynamism in all its cities and towns, this Chilean region is defined by many locals and tourists as an area that is ‘strongly anchored to its roots while always looking at the future’.
