The statistical region includes the county of Borsod-Abaùj-Zemplén, Heves and Nograd. The main city is Miskolc. The region is known for its four castles: the castle of Eger, the castle of Diosgyör, the castle of Füzer and the castle of Sarospatak. Instead of stopping at Miskolc we recommend you to discover Eger. Eger is the second largest city in the north of Hungary but it’s mainly known for its history. If you have plans to stop in this region, you should probably at least spend one day in the city to visit its castle, the thermal baths and its historic buildings. Do not forget to taste the famous Hungarian red wines, one of the specialties of the region.
