North-East Iceland

The Northeastern Region is home to Akureyri, the second largest city in Iceland. Like Reykjaík, Akureyri has a bustling cultural scene, and hosts several festivals during the summer season....

There is plenty of nature to see in the Northeastern Region, such as the Goðafoss waterfall, which spans a width of 30 meters. Part of Vatnajökull National Park is located in the Northeastern Region, where the Dettifoss waterfall is found. Dettifoss is a massive waterfall, and is reported as the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Other outdoor locations you won’t want to miss include the Mývatn lake, the Vindbelgjarfjall volcano, and the Lofthellir Lava Cave. If whale-watching is what you are looking for, head to the town of Húsavík. You may also spot some puffins if you’re lucky!
