Piedmont

A region in the northern part of Italy, Piedmont is marked by a heterogeneous geography, ranging from high-mountain landscapes on the edges of the Valle d'Aosta and of Switzerland, to marshy zones and countryside in the upper part of the highly fertile Po Valley....

The cradle of the Italian industry, it has seen the city of Turin grow into one of the main economic drivers of Northern Italy. Its climate and soil have also made it a very prosperous farming region, with its production of cereal crops (its rice fields cover an enormous area) and wine (including the famous Barolo).
