Okinawa

Encompassing two thirds of the Ryukyu Archipelago and situated south of Kagoshima, Okinawa is the southernmost prefecture of Japan. The capital city of Okinawa Prefecture is Naha....

Stretched in the length of over 1000 kilometers, this prefecture consists principally of Okinawa Islands, Daito Islands, Miyako Islands and Yaeyama Islands. In contrast to ultra-modern and vibrant mainland Japan, Okinawa is a slow-paced chain of isolated nature gems with pristine beaches and amazing undersea life. This elongated group of archipelagos with its corresponding 150 islands is a popular beach destination for Japanese. Still a bit outside the international tourism radar, Okinawa is a true subtropical paradise for all sun-seekers and watersports enthusiasts. If one of them, try out diving around splendid reefs of the Kerama Islands, underwater ruins of Yonaguni and enjoy a world-class marine species. But Okinawa is much more than snorkelling and diving retreat. All adventure lovers will be pleased to explore the subtropical primeval jungle on Iriomote Island, with its dense mangrove and forests. History lovers should explore the ruins and restored castles from the age of the Ryukyu kings.
