Debrecen is the second biggest city in Hungary, and that is not the only reason which makes it appealing. In our busy world today, the time is the most precious thing. When we have some free time, we like to spend it advantageously, but also in a refreshing way. Debrecen has a lot to offer, both if you want to do tourist activities, or just to spend a great afternoon in the spa, not to mention the city’s historical side, which makes it extremely attractive. To sum it up, come with me and discover Debrecen, the city of adventures!

Reformed Great Church (Nagytemplom)

The Reformed Great Church in Debrecen is located in the middle of the city. It has a rich history, knowing that at the place of the Great Church there had been another one back in time, but it was burnt down. It was replaced by a Gothic-styled church then, but it was also burnt down. Its present form was handed over in 1821 by Mihály Péchy, who was one of the most famous architects in Hungary. Probably the most interesting thing is that you can still see the Lajos Kossuth’s chair, who is known as "the greatest Hungarian".

Aquaticum Debrecen

As I mentioned before, in Debrecen, you’ll also have fun, if you are a spa lover. Aquaticum Debrecen is a spa center in the heart of Nagyerdő, that offers thermal, spa, beach, adventure bath, aquapark and wellness facilities for all generations. For health-conscious people, the sauna provides an excellent opportunity for relaxation, and it regenerates the spiritual and physical freshness. The thermal bath has a sauna area of hundreds of square meters.

Great Forest Park (Nagyerdei Park)

Every major city is marked by a famous park – in Debrecen, it is the park in Nagyerdő, declared as the first nature reservation of the country. One of the most beautiful places in Great Forest Park is Lake Békás, with its spectacular fountains and sunbeds, which makes it a great place to relax, have a picnic with friends, walk a dog, or do sports. If you want to move your body, you can use an open-air gym for free, you can play petanque or the giant chessboard, take a walk, run or bike.

Round Forest (Kerekerdő) Adventure Park

The Round Forest Adventure Park is located on the line of the Forest Railway of Zsuzsa, in a picturesque forest environment. This world of fairies offers over 30,000 square meters of indoor and outdoor programs for all ages. There are hundreds of activities for children, but the older ones were not forgotten either: an adrenalin-increasing wire ropeway awaits for the adults. The most exciting section of the track is stretching above the lake, and it is accessible for everyone regardless of age.

As you can see, Debrecen, my country's second-biggest city is a really versatile place to be and to visit. So, don't waste your time, get on a train or a bus, if you're nearby and check it out yourself. What I haven't told you yet is that it's situated right next to the Romanian border, in the eastern part of Hungary, which means a 2,5-hour journey by car, for example, all the way on the motorway. This trip takes 3-4 hours by train for a ticket that costs 12 EUR. Anyhow, I reckon, it is truly worthy to discover Debrecen, the city of adventures, and I take all the responsibility for my recommendation. Have fun!
