Visiting a place, a city or a country is not just taking photos and trying local food. Experiencing Croatia is not just visiting the Adriatic coast, but also learning a bit about its history, seeing how people live there, how the country is organized... that way you can fully experience this country. Let me present you Dubrovnik-Neretva County, the most famous one in Croatia.
From the north to the south
Traveling, sailing, driving, flying more and more towards south from the Northern and Central Adriatic counties, we reached the most famous of all Croatian counties - Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Dubrovnik-Neretva County is the southernmost county of Croatia with its beautiful capital city - Dubrovnik. Important cities besides Dubrovnik are Ploče, Metković, Korčula, and Opuzen, and the major islands are Korčula, Mljet and Lastovo. This county is divided into two parts with the city of Neum, Bosnia's sole sea resort, that belongs to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
What to do in Dubrovnik-Neretva County?
My advice is to get on the boat and spend as much as possible time on the sea. Islands in this Croatian county are worth visiting. The water is nice and calm. Definitely, you should visit the birthplace of Marco Polo on the island of Korčula. Korčula is easily approachable from Dubrovnik, Split, and Hvar by ferries. Lastovo nature park and its oldest lighthouses are the perfect and peaceful spots where you will for sure get some good rest. Furthermore, a few-day-stop should be on the wild and beautiful Mljet Island and Mljet National Park, one of the most beautiful Adriatic islands. After the tour of islands, go to Pelješac, a gourmands paradise with charming beaches and underwater winery, a unique one in Croatia. Your Dubrovnik-Neretva adventure will end in the most famous of them all - Dubrovnik. Its unconquered wall and Stradun street will surpass your expectations. Feel Dubrovnik on your own and come back. I know you will.
