Even if you think we have seen so many places in my wonderful hometown, Belgrade, indeed you are right. But if you think we have discovered everything and tried all that Belgrade has to offer, than you are definitely mistaken. There are so many famous and less famous people who fell in love with the imperfections of the Serbian capital, but who always came back to discover more of it. Today, I am taking you to a not so hidden part of Belgrade, but the one that will definitely charm you fully. I could not help but take a stroll to the historical and residential district of Belgrade, Vracar. I hope you have some comfortable shoes and that you are ready for an adventurous walk.

At that time I needed company from people who would not treat me superficially like at home; I needed company from people who sit at the table and mingle, sing songs and always have an awful lot to say. That Belgrade period just cured my soul and I will always remember it. Erskine Caldwell

Vracar to other people is a renowned cultural area with rich history and traditions, place with hip restaurants, pubs, cocktail bars, coffee shops, many monuments and trademarks and urban shopping area. For me, Vracar is the place where I grew up, went to elementary and high school, made my first running attempts and driving ones as well (which failed tremendously). It is rather spacious and rich area with lots of important spots, beautiful greenery and relaxing parts.

The walk through Vracar district usually start from the Beogradjanka building, located at the Flower Square/Cvetni Trg of Belgrade. After enjoying a glorious view of both the beautiful, grandiose monument and flamboyant flowers of the square, you are ready for the best coffee at Vesele Domacice café. From there, you will definitely have to notice another remarkable monument that is the precious Yugoslav Theatre. Check the repertoire while sipping your coffee and buy a ticket for the best performances in the region.

If you are a fan of beautiful, green areas, then you will love Vracar. In this district, there are several glorious parks where you can have a nice walk, ride a bike, play with yours or other people’s dogs (yes that happens) or simply sit on the one among many wooden benches and observe the people passing by. Adorable Park Manjez evokes so many memories, as it is the place where my friends and I always went to when skipping classes in school, a place of first kisses as well as a place where I have gathered an avid collection of autographs of the famous actors. Due to the proximity to the Yugoslav Theatre, Park Manjez gather la crème de la crème of the Belgrade theatre scene.

Finally, the walk through Vracar district of Belgrade cannot be completed without a visit to one of the magnificent trademarks of the city – the Temple of Saint Sava. Also called Hram Svetog Save, you might be feeling a bit tired as there will be a few uphill routes, but trust me, the view to this breathtaking monument will definitely be worth it. In fact, Hram Svetog Save is usually people's first association with Vracar, and the greatest pride of the local residents of the area. Get an ice cream from one of those small ice cream trucks and simply enjoy the view. But I warn you, you will have to come back over and over again.
