Have you visited Monteverde Vecchio, one of the quietest and most picturesque neighborhoods in Rome? As I live in Monteverde Vecchio, naturally it is my favorite area. It is best to start taking a stroll in the neighborhood in the afternoon just before the "golden hours."

The sooner I am leaving Rome, the more I realize how much I love my neighborhood. At first, I chose my apartment because of its close distance to my university. Little did I know that the building was located in such a wonderful area, where most Romans would want to live. I am going to give you my suggestions for a perfect afternoon in Monteverde Vecchio followed by a divine dinner at one of the best fine-dining restaurants in Rome, Antico Arco.

Why don't you start your relaxing afternoon with a walk in the large public parks Villa Doria Pamphilj and Villa Sciarra? Painted by Franz Ludwig Catel (1778–1856), the picture above depicts Villa Doria Pamphilj in the 19th century. The oil painting was probably created in 1837 or 1838. Today, the historic park still retains its tranquility and charm as seen in the photo below.

In addition to the beautiful nature, the neighborhood offers a breathtaking panorama of Rome from the top of The Janiculum Hill. At this point, it may be sunset time depending on your walking pace and the time of the year. The view from Terrazza del Gianicolo (Janiculum Terrace) is vast and captivating, especially during the golden hours. Afterwards, proceed to the magnificent fountain Fontana dell'Acqua Paola, which is only a 5-min walk away. Another nearby architectural masterpiece worth exploring is the Classical-style Tempietto del Bramante at Chiesa di San Pietro in Montorio.

Finally, to reward yourself for all the walking you have just done, make a reservation at the nearby restaurant Antico Arco, which is recommended in the Michelin Guide. Trust me, it is worth trying because I have dined there more than three times and have never been disappointed. The dinner shall be the highlight of your exploration. Their Italian cuisine with a modern twist is executed excellently and passionately.

Here is my review of the restaurant on their Facebook page:

I am always happy with the food quality and service here. I highly recommend their signature dish which is spaghetti carbonara with black truffles. Their molten chocolate cake is also amazing! They even do customized dishes for you if you want something off the menu. I love this restaurant and will definitely come back! - Vy Tran, March 2017
