Each region of Georgia is beautiful and special because of its diversity. In this article, I am going to tell you about five must-sees in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region. The trip starts from Tbilisi and continues to Mamkoda Monastery, Sabaduri Forest, Bear’s Shelter in Tskhvarichamia and the Sioni Reservoir

Mtskheta-Mtianeti is a region in the eastern part of Georgia, that is divided into five municipalities. All above-mentioned places are spread across different municipalities. So, let’s start our tour.

Mamkoda Monastery

The first place to stop by is the Mamkoda Monastery. It is a monastery complex that is located near Tbilisi. It consists of the 19th-century churches of St. Mary and St. George, the bell tower and the fragments of the unknown constructions and a fence. You will enjoy the panoramic views around the village Mamkoda

Sabaduri Forest

After the Mamkoda Monastery, you can move to the Sabaduri Forest. It is a place where you will feel yourself in a fairytale. The Sabaduri Forest is beautiful in all seasons, especially in autumn and winter. Imagine that you are walking in a magical forest full of golden leaves or when it is totally white, full of snow. The road is easy to cover, so you can walk there several kilometers and make great pictures.

Tskhvarichamia and Bear’s Shelter

The next stop will be in Tskhvarichamia. This is a village in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region that is located 1100 meters above the sea level. Tskhvarichamia is considered a recreational resort with an excellent climate for the treatment and prevention of respiratory diseases. It is one of the most favorite places not only of Georgians but our visitors as well.  Another thing you shouldn't miss is the Bear’s Shelter, located on the territory of Tskhvarichamia. Nowadays, you can see around ten bears in the shelter.  The Bear’s Shelter cares about the rehabilitation of rescued bears and tries to return them to wildlife. You will definitely enjoy visiting this shelter and breathing fresh and healthy air of Tskhvarichamia

Sioni Reservoir

Just 1.5h of driving from Tskhvarichamia and you will reach to the Sioni Reservoir. It is a water reservoir in eastern Georgia and the average depth of the Sioni Reservoir is 67 m. The reservoir is a kind of a gorge and has a steep and rocky bank. The upper part is covered with a leafy forest that is different from the lower one. The Sioni Reservoir is used for the irrigation and reaches its maximum level in July. Apart from enjoying its views, you can also go fishing there.
