Gorski Smesko, a back-to-nature cafe near Novi Sad

Novi Sad has something for everyone: be it contemporary art, long theater tradition, quirky cafes, and even a national park, within a 15-minutes drive from the city center. The nearness of Fruska Gora National Park, a true wild oasis protected by the state, offers a great opportunity to escape the city at least for a short afternoon. The group of nature enthusiasts has recognized the beauty of the place, and the flexibility that its optimal location offers, and came up with an interesting concept - Gorski Smesko - a back-to-nature cafe in the heart of the wild, and rather close to Novi Sad.

The idea was greeted with excitement from the thriving nature-lovers society in this area, and a place is now, two years after opening, reaching the well-deserved recognition. 

Their story and idea

Located in between the tall tree trunks and narrow hiking paths, Gorski Smesko is inspired by nature, conservation, and alternative lifestyle. The association of nature enthusiasts of the same name, used the place of the cafe, as a gathering spot for many different social and ecological events: green initiatives, yoga workshops, art workshops for children, and so on. 

When you feel like stopping for a day and reflecting on our hastened lifestyle, somewhere without internet, but close enough to the city, you know where to head.  The opportunities are endless: read a book, hang out with friends, have a dozen beers, or just relax with family or your pet. Gorski Smesko lacks the crowd and stress but offers a stretch of time, ready to be filled with quality activities - a true rarity in the age that we live in.

Events that make the forest move

Gorski Smesko offers immersion in nature, with the comfort of modern life and having fun.  This original ambiance welcomes the visitors to different thematic events, organized with a similar idea to reconnect with nature, friends, and yourself. One of the great ideas was a series of movie projections in the open-air, in the woods. The other popular idea were the jazz sessions in the open, accompanied by a hot beverage and dimly lit fire.

The freshest addition to their repertoire promises for an unforgettable New Year’s Eve, as Gorski Smesko, a back-to-nature cafe near Novi Sad, invites everyone to the unique “Jazz in the Forest” party, holiday edition. Bonfire instead of fireworks, jazz and house sounds intertwined with birds singing in the foggy morning hours of the 1st of January, sounds like the perfect way to start a year for all of the nature-lovers!
