Previously, I already presented my country’s biggest music festivals to you, in which you had a chance to get a closer look at Sziget, Balaton Sound and VOLT festivals. These are Hungary’s hotshots when it comes to summer music festivals, but there are plenty more such events in this Central European country, that are less-known but still awesome. Therefore, in this article, I would like to show you which further shows I consider similarly unmissable festivals, even though they don’t get such widespread attention. Please follow me and witness how endless Hungary’s offer is for those who are fond of summertime and the feeling of getting lost in loud but quality music.

EFOTT

It is also known as the largest student party in Hungary, which was founded in 1976, making it one of the oldest music festivals in the country. EFOTT, which is an acronym for National Tourist Meeting of University and College Students (in Hungarian), has already been held in several locations since its inception. However, 2019 will be the fifth time in a row that Lake Velence will be the home to the event. I would say that EFOTT rather suits the Hungarian youth, considering that mainly Hungarian bands step on the sage, but every single year, at least two widely-known foreign names appear at EFOTT to entertain us. This year’s show is also awaiting us with world-famous performers, so it might be attractive to foreigners as well.

2019’s biggest names: Rita Ora, Gianluca Vacchi, Borgore

Takes place: 09.07.2019-15.07.2019

B.my.Lake

B.my.lake electronic music festival, that exists since 2013, has broken up in the ranks of Hungarian festivals in just a few years. With its progressive and boutique-style, it has already been awarded for many times in its quite brief history. Such a prestigious award was, for example, the best new European festival in its first year. At B.my.Lake festival, tech, minimal, house and contemporary techno DJs provide the atmosphere by the Zala Camping of Keszthely.

2019’s biggest names: Sven Väth, Sasha, Secret Factory, Sikztah, Amelie Lens

Takes place: 21.08.2019-25.08.2019

Strand Festival

This relatively young event joined Hungarian music festivals similarly to B.my.Lake in 2013, and it also can be found in Zamárdi, at Lake Balaton. As well as in the case of Balaton Sound or B.my.Lake, visitors of Strand Festival are supplied with a real beach experience, where unforgettable memories are granted by superb performers from all over the world. You decide if the fact that B.my.Lake and Strand festivals take place at the same time is great or rather hard luck.

2019’s biggest names: Bastille, Jason Derulo, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Steve Aoki, Anne Marie, John Newman, Jonas Blue

Takes place: 20.08.2019-24.08.2019

As you can see, the summer in Hungary is really huge fun for those who are after music festivals. My beloved mother country is not only a magnificent home to gastronomy – here you can track down the best hamburgers in Budapest or a place where you can get a real culture shock, like in Győr. For its relatively short size, Hungary is one of the biggest providers of summer music festivals, where you can find real hotshots and also less-known but still awesome shows starting from June to August in every upcoming season.
