Adega Machado was founded in 1937 by fado musicians Maria de Lurdes and Armando Machado. Since then, the house has helped maintain that important part of the country's culture. Amália Rodrigues, the famous portuguese fado singer, was a friend of the owners and a regular presence in the house, along with many other musicians and singers that came here to provide for a great night of fado. Adega Machado went through some difficult times around the 70s and 80s, when many fado restaurants were closed due to political reasons. But it managed to maintain its place as one of the keepers of that tradition, and is nowadays still visited by faithful local customers and fado lovers, offering classic portuguese dishes and music.
