Azud de Tuéjar is considered the location where the river Tuejar (that flow into the main river Turia) is born. For many years, in the place where you can see the recreational area, there was a small reservoir that provided water for the people nearby. At the moment, this has been turned into a small lake or natural swimming pool (called Pozo de las Escaleras) that is where people are allowed to swim and bathe. Take some proper water shoes to properly enjoy the pool since there are some stones and rocks, and be ready for the cold water too! There are plenty of trees that will give you shade, and a picnic area where Spanish families or groups of friends hang out and enjoy Sunday lunches. You can also find a camp site next to the area if you fancy staying there for a couple of days and explore the area and go hiking through the mountains. Photo credit © Helena Guerrero
