Casa-Museo San Juan de la Cruz. Úbeda

The day September 28, 1591 Fray Juan de la Cruz arrives at the convent of Ubeda to "cure of a calenturillas". Here he remained until his death in a poor cell of the convent. It is the definitive encounter with the Beloved, at twelve o'clock between day 13 and December 14 will Fray Juan "to sing matins to heaven." It has become a reality that verse he wrote: "breaks the fabric of this sweet encounter".

Since that time the convent of Ubeda became a focus which spread the spirituality of the Carmelite mystic barefoot. The religious of this community always opened its doors to all those who came to know the singular figure of Fray Juan. Finally, in 1978 the San Juan Cruz Museum collecting various relics and other memorabilia that were related to the Holy was opened and prepared the visitor a tour of his life and doctrine. It is also enriched with a remarkable specialized in sanjuanistas and spirituality topics library.

In the Jubilee Year 2000 the museum underwent a major reform, increasing with a large number of works from the convents of the Province of Santo Angel Custodio of Andalusia. Thus, the Museum currently has twelve rooms where visitors can come to know this great universal figure of thought and Christian spirituality.
