A visit to Museum Roman Katakomben is an unforgettable experience. Winding through the underground passageways, the guide will take you to times long gone, to Rome from the early Christianity of the third and fourth centuries. You descend to the graves of ordinary Roman citizens and to the magnificent tombs of prominent Romans. In the marlstone holes have been cut out to serve as horizontal tombs, the so-called loculi. These niches were formerly closed off with a terracotta or a marble plate. Well-off families often had their own burial chamber, a cubiculum, with richly decorated walls. Beautiful frescoes, sculptures, and the fascinating story of the guide in the light of candlelight make the tour a fascinating experience.
