Horst-Janssen-Museum Oldenburg

The Horst Janssen Museum is a house dedicated to fine art on paper. The namesake is the great, North German draftsman, etcher, woodcutter, poster artist, illustrator, author and graphic artist Horst Janssen (1929-1995).

The museum offers an exciting encounter with the work and personality of the idiosyncratic artist. In the second half of the 20th century, Janssen created masterpieces on paper whose range is impressive: from the anecdotal woodcuts of the late 1950s to fine-line drawings and technically brilliant etchings to the late, expressive watercolors, Janssen has graphic art sounded like no other. The Horst Janssen Museum shows in changing exhibitions, the finest examples of his fascinating self-portraits, his devoted floral still lifes, revealing portraits and erotically charged "meat drawings".

In special exhibitions, artists from the fields of art history and contemporary art are regularly presented, who, like Janssen, place drawing and printmaking at the center of their work.
