Description

Even Prato and its province have legends to tell like the attempted theft of the “Sacred Belt” by Musciattino. Listening to a legend you can travel to the past with imagination. You can experience a place in a different way, discovering this 'dark side' of ancient stories and traditions. The myth is the narrative reduction of a religious experience, designed to meet the need to provide an explanation of natural phenomena, or to questions about the existence and the cosmos. Special events: All week: Linked to a Belt in Palazzo Pretorio Museum - an exhibition path that unites history and tradition and which, above all, interlaces the symbol of the city's identity with the artistic events of Prato. A religious and civic symbol, the fulcrum of the artistic events of Prato and the hub of its identity: the Sacra Cintola, the belt of the Virgin in the Cathedral, which for centuries has been the most precious treasure in Prato, will be at the center of the new museum exhibition of Palazzo Pretorio. The exhibition talks about a tale that speaks of the city and its rich heritage of culture and beauty. The origin of the cult of the sacred belt is rooted in the twelfth century; legend claims that the belt, delivered to St. Thomas by the Madonna at the time of the Assumption, was brought to Prato in 1141 by the merchant Michele and from him donated to the bishop of the city. The exhibition will allow visitors to enter the Cintola chapel, usually closed to visitors, and admire the cycle of frescoes by Agnolo Gaddi. 11th of November 2017 at16 pm in Piazza Duomo Messer Alfeo tells about legends of Prato (free guided tour): a fascinating guided tour in the center of Prato through the legends of Prato, its mysteries and traditions 12th of November 2017 at 16 pm in Piazza Duomo Messer Alfeo tells about legends of Prato (free guided tour): a fascinating guided tour in the center of Prato through the legends of Prato, its mysteries and traditions Info: info@pratoturismo.it www.cittadiprato.it Officina Giovani piazza Macelli 4 Prato 003905741837711 politichegiovanili@comune.prato.it
