Here you will learn about the medieval Stockholm and Middle Ages people's everyday lives, livelihoods, happiness and sorrow. The museum is built around ancient monuments that were found by chance.

In the late 1970s, the old Parliament House needed to be completed with a garage. Prior to the building, archaeological investigations were carried out at Helgeandsholmen in 1978-80. They became very extensive and amazing finds were made. Three of the largest were parts of the medieval city wall, a cemetery belonging to the medieval Helgeandshuset and a "secret" walk to the castle. These became permanent ancient monuments around which Medieval Museum was built.
