The municipality of Coupvray, in collaboration with the World Blind Union and the French Louis Braille Committee, manages the museum.

Explore the Senses in the Garden

One of the highlights of the Musée Louis Braille is its "Jardin des Cinq Sens" (Garden of the Five Senses). This sensory garden invites visitors to explore their senses through a pergola that forms a tunnel representing the night, symbolizing the loss of sight. As you walk through the tunnel, your senses will be stimulated by different elements, such as fragrant plants, edible herbs, tactile surfaces, and visually appealing landscapes. The sound of flowing water and rustling leaves adds an auditory dimension to the experience. The garden was designed by the technical services of Coupvray and features over 150 varieties of plants, thanks to the support of the Givaudan Foundation.

The common room, a typical Briard living space, is dedicated to the inventions related to Braille writing. Here, you can find the first Braille tablets, a Braille typewriter, and a raphigraphe, among other fascinating artifacts. Visitors are even given the opportunity to try their hand at writing in Braille using a tablet and stylus.

The Musée Louis Braille is open all year round, welcoming visitors from near and far. The museum is open on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:30 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm. On Thursdays, it is open from 8:30 am to 12 pm, and on Saturdays from 9 am to 12 pm. The museum is located at 13 rue Louis Braille in Coupvray, just a short distance from Paris.
