Museo de la Educación

Located in the building where the Normal School of Girls No. 1 worked between 1886 and 1973, the Gabriela Mistral Education Museum offers its visitors a compilation of the history of education in Chile.

The collection of its collection is made up of furniture and school material. In it we find, for example, electrostatic machines for the teaching of physics, commissioned to Europe by Diego Barros Arana, didactic sheets, a complete series of maps of famous cartographers, desks, abacuses and other school items used in different periods. Also part of the collection is a Heritage Library specialized in educational sciences -composed by more than 40,000 works and texts on philosophy of education, pedagogical psychology, didactics and methodology of subjects, anthropology, economics and sociology- and a photographic archive whose images give an account of the historical processes that Chilean education goes through.

Extension activities: temporary exhibitions, classroom programs ("The Museum visits you"), seminars, training courses, forums, colloquia, theater plays, concerts and exhibition of films and documentaries. Consultation of the photographic archive and the patrimonial library; chats; guided tours (reservation required); heritage programs; workshops, and story-telling.
