Juan Santamaria Cultural Historical Museum is the national institution to acquire, preserve, and disseminate cultural heritage related to Costa Rica’s national Independence and the province of Alajuela. It is a beautiful two story building, designed with historic open air walkways and balconies which overlook the central courtyard. It is located in the Old Fort and former city jail. On continuous exhibit are historical artifacts, antiques, documents and art. It is located on one side of the Alajuela Central Park. Inside there is a cafe, bookstore, library and a theater where community cultural activities take place. Open most days 10-5:30, closed on holidays. © Credits Flickr/Pablo Jimenez
