Small and fine: In the heart of the old town is located at Haldenplatz No. 1, the museum in the iron house. Even the attractive half-timbered house from the 17th century is worth a visit: volute necklaces, carved sun wheels and terrifying envy masks adorn the façade of the building, but the interior also holds interesting exhibits for the visitors. Clothiers worked and lived here between 1771 and 1856 and until 1907 a butcher's shop was located on the ground floor. Every year, the Heimatverein Hattingen / Ruhr e.V. as the bearer of the museum shows interesting exhibitions on the history of the city and its settlement. During guided tours outside the opening hours, visitors of all ages will get to know the half-timbered house from 1611 from the cellar to the roof. Guided city tours, local history lectures, readings and active workshops complete the museum's offerings.
