The Museum of Literature and Theater Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina is rarely a cultural and scientific institution in the South Slavic / Balkan and European dimensions, which simultaneously deals with the (o) preservation and presentation of rich material from two art areas - literature and theater arts. It was founded in 1961 as the Museum of Literature in BiH, and ten years later, in 1970, the Museum expanded its activities to the theater art of BiH. The Museum of Literature and Theatrical Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina is located in Sime Milutinović Sarajlije 7, in the center of the Municipality of Stari Grad, and is located in an old family house that dates back to the middle of the 19th century. The house was owned by the Skaric family, and later by the family Despic. Iva Despic, the wife of lawyer Ace Despic, the last owner of the house, made a great contribution to the refinement of the appearance of the house. The attractiveness of this building has been greatly enhanced by the existence of a courtyard (atrium) with a garden and a fountain that is suitable for holding literary evenings, theater and music events, scientific conferences and seminars. The building is a cultural and historical monument of the first category. The basic task of the Museum of Literature and Theater Art of Bosnia and Herzegovina is to gather material relating to the creativity and life of writers and writers, theater artists and artists of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to scientifically valorise and museologically systematize, process and preserve, and to invent and arrange for use and use in scientific research work, repeated readings, study of the history of literature and theater art of BiH. The museum material consists of manuscripts, correspondences, personal documents, correspondences, three-dimensional objects, photographs of creators and their associates, newspapers, magazines, publications, books in which writers published all works and other documentary material, theater posters, individual stage photographs of theater artists, photographs of the performances of Bosnian theater, scenographic and costume sketches ... Scientificly systematized material is distributed in literary and theater collections handled by curators and curators, several curators and senior curators and museum advisers and counselors. Currently, there are 67 literary collections and 17 theater collections with over 20,000 exhibits in the Fund's Museum of Literature and Theater Art of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the funds of the literary section there is material - collections for studying the literature of the people of BiH, among them the richest are the collections of Isak Samokovlija, Ivo Andrić, Meše Selimović, Silvija Strahimir Kranjčević, Petar Kočić, Hasan Kikić, Branko Ćopić, Hamze Hume, Borivoje Jevtić, Safvet- Bey Bašagić, Amed Muradbegović, Mak Dizdar, Marko Marković and the archive of the literary magazine Brazda. Along with collections of individual writers, there are complete libraries of Silvija Strahimir Kranjcevic, Petar Kocic, Hasan Kikic, Ahmed Muradbegovic, Marko Markovic, Kalmija Barug, Midhat Begic and Josip Leic. The theater material of the Museum of Literature and Theater Art of Bosnia and Herzegovina is also distributed in collections: collections of posters and program of theater performances of the Bosnian and Herzegovinian theaters from 1920 to the present, collection of scenic photographs of Bosnian-Herzegovinian theaters, collection of individual stage and personal photographs of theater artists, collections of individual theater producers (directors, actors, stage designers, costume designers, conductors, opera and ballet artists). The most numerous are the collections of actors, directors, stage and costume designers: Vasa Kosic, Jelena Keseljevic, Uros Kravljac, Jolande Dacic, Reihan Demirdzic, Zvonko Zrncic, Safet Pasalic, Olga Babic, Josip Leic, Juroslav Korenic, Boris Smoj and others . In the first stage of its existence during the SFRY, MKPU did not own its own exhibition space, so it was forced to present its thematic exhibitions to the wider public in the premises of related institutions throughout the SFRY. However, in 1992 MKPU opened its own exhibition space on the ground floor of the building - MAK Gallery, and since then, MKPU organizes its exhibition and guest exhibitions, literary evenings, theater and music manifestations, scientific conferences and seminars in the exhibition space.
