The Patarei Sea Fortress and Prison is a large, triangular shaped defensive building along the coast. Nicolas I ordered for the fortress to be built in the 19th century. During the Soviet occupation of Estonia, the building was used as a prison. While it is currently not possible to enter the fortress-prison, it is still possible to walk about the exterior of the complex. Picture © Credits to istock/Freda Bouskoutas
