On a high plateau situated opposite the Isola Comacina at Lake Como, between 1635 and 1710, the Sacro Monte of Ossuccio was built and dedicated to the mystery of the Holy Rosary. The inspiration for the complex was the then recently constructed Sacro Monte of Varese. The devotional itinerary progresses along an ascending path lined with 14 chapels and terminates at the Sanctuary of the Beata Vergine del Soccorso, the altar of which serves as the fifteenth and last station.
