Samaipata Fort (El Fuerte de Samaipata, in Spanish) is a sculpted monolithic rock located in the Archeological Site of Samaipata, in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. The findings and symbols sculpted in the rock indicate that it was a pre-hispanic ceremonial center. Later, during the colonial period, the Spanish people used it as a fort to defend themselves from Guarani tribes. ©iStock/DmitriyBurlakov
