This small, river bathed town is located near Santarém, and is home to the Castle of Torres Novas, a portuguese National Monument. The origins of Torres Novas are disputed, has some suggest the Roman Empire started the foundations for the town, others say it has celtic origins, and the castle is of arabic origins. The concensus is that Torres Novas was very important in medieval times, due to its location between the cities of Lisbon and Coimbra.
