Just 3 blocks from Alajuela Central Park is the open-air Tortillería restaurant of Alajuela. It offers the most typical Costa Rican dishes and wonderful typical breakfasts. Coffee is served in the traditional way with a wooden “choreador” (drip coffee). Tortillas are like homemade and we recommend the “chorreadas” with natilla (Costa Rican sour cream). “Chorreadas” are a cross between a corn pancake and cornbread. Delicious! Try it in Costa Rica! If you’re not a coffee drinker (or even if you are!), we recommend trying the typical Costa Rican hot beverage called “Agua dulce”. It’s made with cane molasses and while the name says “agua” (water) you can also order it with hot milk. It’s Costa Rica’s version of a hot chocolate, but you can order hot chocolate too! Even if your hotel offers a complimentary breakfast, plan to come one morning for a truly typical Costa Rican breakfast at the Tortilleria. © FourSquare/Tortilleria
