Walls of Tallinn

The old medieval walls of Tallinn were built for the city's defense. They were first built in the 13th century and were less than 5 meters tall and 1.5 meters wide at the base. In the following years, the walls were built to be larger and stronger. Today, much of the old city walls and towers still are standing, making Tallinn different from many other old European cities whose fortified walls have since fallen.
