In the Spanish region of Extremadura, where the land breathes history and culture that date back to the Roman times, Merida is the city where traces of an ancient past meet and coexist with the present life. Capital of the Roman Hispania, Merida is a city that will make you stroll with your nose nicely up: Roman temples, theatre and amphitheatre, arches and much more are all visible and beautifully maintained. Let our local guide share her expertise and knowledge with you, and delve into an unforgettable experience where the past still lives today!

2 things you will never forget

  • Delving into the Roman history at the Roman theatre and amphitheatre, beautifully preserved and still mysterious
  • Admiring the Temple of Diana, that was turned into a family palace during the Renaissance

Discover what your amazing day will look like

Let's meet: You will meet your guide in front of the Museo Nacional de Arte Romano

We will embark together on a walking journey, starting with a visit to the Roman museum. In Mérida it is usually very hot, so we can tell you that being inside the museum will be appreciated, while the outside temperature cools down. The museum hosts over 30,000 pieces, and space is lacking to host all the remains extracted from the ruins. Of course, we will keep enough time for souvenir shopping. Afterwards, we will move toward the Roman Theatre and the Amphitheatre.

We will then have a nice break, and taste typical “tapas” as well as a “caña” (small beer)

Let's go now for the second part of the tour, as plenty of other places still await for us. For example, the Roman Temple of Diana, gate to the Roman Forum. Then, Trajanos’ arch, the Roman bridge and the Alcazaba. For every single spot, you may ask whether for more explanations, for pictures ... it is entirely up to you. If you are interested, we can also go to Los Milagros Aqueduct or the basilica of Santa Eulalia, about which your guide will have many things to tell.

Let's have some food in a small bar that proposes delicious and cheap food.

... and this is just the beginning !

Not being in a rush. Leaving space for the unexpected. Enjoy the local vibe and create unforgettable memories.

This is what our experiences are really all about. So start your own Live Story, and let the magic happen!

Meet Sara, your Local Guide

Picture of Sara Rodriguez Romo

Hi, I'm Sara! I was born in Olivenza, a place that used to be Portuguese but is now Spanish. As they say here, I am a daughter of Spain and a granddau...ghter of Portugal; that's how I feel. I studied philosophy and archaeology. These are not only my passions, but also what the neighbouring provinces of Extremadura and Alentejo and their inhabitants radiate and share with their visitors. I also love to travel, and the best way to do so is to visit my friends all over the world, so that they can show me their REAL country. I believe this is the only way to get to know a place, and that is the person I would like to be for you! I am outgoing, full of energy and definitely a fan of history, mythology and legends. If you add to this a good little drink at the end of the experience, you will remember this moment forever.

The meeting point

Sara will be waiting for you at Museo Nacional de Arte Romano
