We often quote Frank Gehry to support and explain our interest and intuitively recognize examples of good architecture.  "Architecture should speak of its time and place but yearn for timelessness." Architecture has never stopped developing and improving. Good architecture examples are standing still in Milan- so I wouldn’t be far from the truth if I said that the city of Milan is one architectural museum on its own. From Roman times, through Renaissance, and till contemporary achievements, whenever you feel “hungry” for stunning modern architecture, Milan is a safe choice to go to. In the text that follows, I will prove my point by presenting "The New Milan Trade Center" designed by Fuksas Studio.

Fuksas Studio is a Rome-based architectural studio led by Massimiliano and Doriana Mandelli Fuksas. Some well known Fuksas projects are the Armani store on 5th Avenue, the convention center “La Nuvola” in Rome and the new Milan trade center. They say that they don’t have a particular style, but it is easy to recognize that they do. Actually, a “lack of a distinct” style is how they personally label their style.

The Fuksas trade center in Milano is expanding over eight separate structures, oriented towards one long spine. This spine is 1.5km long and is considered to be the symbol of the project. The building process of this object lasted 27 months, and since 2017, the Milan Trade Fair has been attracting large-scale conventions and improving the use of wide urban spaces. The project covers an area of 2.1 million square feet.

The buildings included in it serve different functions: offices, a hotel, receptions of the pavilions, a commercial gallery, and smaller spaces. The placement of the buildings on the central axis consists of various surfaces, among which water pools, grassy areas, and epoxy resin floorings can be found. There are big pavilion facades made of glass and mirror stainless steel as a background. Above this space, there is a large cover named “vail.” Fuksas designed the flow of this veil with constant arithmetic variations that refer to natural landscapes. They made the glass cover of flat rhomboid pieces while the curves are made of triangular pieces. This design can make you feel like one starry sky is floating very close to you. It's just magnificent!
