Istanbul is a historic city with lots of site seeing to offer to its visitors, but just like everything else this historic city is evolving as well. Besides the historic buildings and the museums, a modern art scene has been on the rise for the past 20 years, the museum Istanbul Modern is the most known place when modern art is mentioned in Istanbul, however there are many other galleries and locations which needs to be seen by the art lovers who is interested in Turkish interpretation of modern art.
Istanbul Biennial has been organized by Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts since 1987. Starting from the first ever organization, biennial took on an important role of promoting contemporary artists not only in Turkey but regionally and internationally. This research centre and library located in a historical Ottoman building, provides open archives, work spaces and workshops to the art enthusiasts and to those who like to read and learn.
There are many other private galleries and museums like Pera Museums in locations such as Galata and Istiklal Avenue, exploring is up to you but I promise you won't regret the contemporary art scene in Istanbul.
