Moraira, a Mediterranean paradise in Alicante

Are you looking for a quiet stunning place with crystal-clear beaches and breathtaking coves to spend a few days? Moraira, a beach town in Alicante, is your Mediterranean paradise, then. If you are spending some time in the Valencian community far away from tourists, you cannot miss Moraira and its fantastic weather. I always recommend visiting Moraira in September or October, as the weather is not as hot as in July or August and will make your experience slightly more pleasant. 

You may wonder why Moraira's beaches are considered a treasure by its locals and why you will not find many tourists there. Let me tell you some more interesting aspects that make this town special and unique. The coastline of Moraira spreads over 8 kilometres which, for the most part, is notably rocky and steep. Moraira borders Benissa to the west and Benitachell to the north (also places of the same features as Moraira and definitely worth visiting). Moraira is delimited by two capes, Cap d'Or and Cap Blanc, and in between these two is where you can find the most beautiful coves and beaches. So, as you can imagine, getting there is not so easy. The best option would be to rent a car because buses or public transport will not take you to some of the most remote places in Moraira. 

Moraira's two nicest beaches

There is a wide range of incredible beaches to see and explore in Moraira. Of all the beaches in this town, there are four sandy beaches. If you want to explore them by kayak, which I recommend, they can be rented from one of the different active tourism companies in front of the Port of Moraira and on the beach of El Portet. But let me tell you first about two of the nicest sandy beaches of Moraira: L’Ampolla Beach and Portet Beach.

L’Ampolla Beach

You cannot miss the main beach of Moraira, the beach of l'Ampolla, located to the immediate west of the town centre. I would say this is probably the busiest beach in Moraira, and you can find it right at the bottom of a small castle, a fortress that used to watch over this part of the coast. It is one of Moraira's four blue flags beaches and provides its visitors with a wide range of services: lifeguards, sunbeds and parasols, pedal boats, toilets and car parks.

Portet Beach

On the other side of Cap d'Or, next to it, is Portet Beach, with fine sand and crystal clear water. It is a 400-metre sandy beach, with some rocky areas on the sides where you can also enjoy a good swim or spend some time snorkelling. The sea bottom is full of colourful fish and seaweed, probably something you would not expect. From there, you can also begin a pleasant hiking route which will take you no more than one hour (there and back), and you can also visit and enjoy the views from the watchtower of Cap d'Or. Portet Beach is a blue flag beach with many services, like lifeguards, restaurants or bars and kayak hire. If you arrive late on peak days, you will have to park in the narrow streets of the neighbouring urbanisations.

In sum, Moraira is considered by many as a Mediterranean paradise to spend some proper summer days. Its wonderful beaches of L’Ampolla and Portet will take your breath away and will make you want to come back. It is without a doubt, one of my favourite towns in the province of Alicante.
