If you want to meet ''the real'' Montenegro, than I advise you to meet its mountains. Montenegro is well known for the enormous amount of natural treasures and mountain Komovi is just one of them. Situated on the south-eastern part of Montenegro, it has mesmerizing surroundings such as mountains Bjelasica and Prokletije, rivers Tara and Lim and authentic settlements in the base of the mountain.

Komovi mountain is as impressive as Durmitor or Prokletije, but it has a slightly different terrain and in the terms of area it is not as large as these two. The name Komovi is in the plural as it represents its 3 peaks: Kom Kučki(2487 m), Kom Vasojevički(2460 m) and Kom Lijevorečki(2453 m).

For anyone who likes hiking, Komovi and its peaks are one of the most interesting sites to visit. The terrain is diverse, flora and fauna are rich and Eco-villages with hospitable people make every minute spent here an experience that is hard to forget. If hiking to the top is not something you would enjoy, don't worry! There is a plenty of beautiful places you can reach without too much effort.

When I think of Komovi, I have many associations coming to my mind: large green meadows, dense and high forests, sheep and horses, water springs and fields covered by flowers, intriguing peaks and I could say foxes as well, as my first close contact with these animals was just here at the foothill of Komovi.

Even though it is possible to climb one of the tops in a day, I prefer staying here for at least 3 days and fully enjoy in the nature. There are few Eco-villages with authentic ambiance and very hospitable hosts. One of them is Ethno Village Štavna, situated on 1 800 m, with a great view of Komovi peaks. Ethno Village Štavna is a complex of 11 mountain lodges with 5 beds, bathroom and living room in each. Close to the lodges, there is a restaurant where you can taste home made products and national meals as well as drink home made rakia.

Komovi mountain is ideal to explore during summer. It is unlike seaside and beaches, a calm place perfect for rest and relaxation. With fresh air, wind in the hair and birds' song, this is the perfect place for an active holiday.
