The Mozrov cave is located in the southern part of Armenia in the province of Vayots Dzor. It’s one of the most beautiful caves on the territory of Armenia, and the lucky ones who visit this miracle, a gift from nature, will definitely like it. However, this place is recommended only to those who are well experienceed in exploring caves, as inside from time to time you will need to crawl.

How to find the cave?

It takes you around two hours to get from the capital city Yerevan to the Areni village, where you can have some rest before making your way to the cave. There are many caves in this region: Areni 1 or Mashik Cave where a 6000-year-old winery was discovered, as well as well-known cave called Magil, and another one called Arjeri (Bear) Cave that is the biggest one in the Caucasus. However, the Mozrov Cave, eventhough the smallest one in Vayots Dzor, is the coolest and the most beautiful one, though a bit dangerous to explore. The road to the cave passes through the city of Yeghegnadzor and the village of Mozrov. You can get to the entrance by car but the rest of the way, of course, you'll need to walk. Those who like hiking and climbing can get there on foot, depending on how much time you have.

Things you should know about Mozrov

The Mozrov Cave was named after the village Mozrov during the construction of which it was discovered. The thing is, that because it’s a bit dangerous and, at any point, any peace can fall, the entrance is prohibited but as we know, there are many nature extremists who love experiencing things that are forbidden (if you know what I mean). Also, the entrance is not locked, and there is only a sign advising not to enter. However it’s better to contact the municipality to get official permission to visit the cave. The cave has three huge halls that are connected through narrow corridors. From all the corners it is surrounded by golden & yellowish stalactites and stalagmites. In the Magil Cave and Bears’ Cave, you know that everything is safe and no stone or stalactite can fall, here that can happen at any second, so you have to be really very careful and have to mind each of your steps. Also, make sure you do not take the kids with you.

Because of the ruins, the main entrance to the first hall is closed, so you will need to find an alternative path to get in. It’s worth seeing it, as the view that comes after is fantastic. The total length of the cave is 700 meters. The second hall is even nicer than the first one. You go a bit further, and you will get to the third hall that also blows your mind with its beauty.

The Mozrov cave is an awesome place to see. However whenever you visit it, please make sure you do not break any stalactite or stalagmite there as those are priceless, a gift from nature to Armenia. It took thousands of years each of those stalactites to get those forms, and we also have to do our best for these beauties to survive further.
