Argentina is the land of everything, a beautiful country with so much to offer. One of those things is the beautiful Salta province, a magical place with many things to discover, ranging from national parks to museums, you will never get bored. Salta is also the name of a city in said region. Some say it is the prettiest Argentinian city, hence its nickname "Salta, the beautiful". The city is well-known because of its amazing Spanish colonial architecture, which makes sightseeing particularly interesting. The city is beautiful and filled with life as every place in Argentina. In this story, I will share with you the must-sees of Salta, a jewel of Argentina.

The Basilica of Salta

The Basilica of Salta is a beloved monument of the city. It represents the spirituality and faith of locals. Inside the Basilica, there are the "Señor y la Virgen del Milagro" (the Lord and Virgin of the Miracle) the town patron's saints. Their celebration is on September 15 each year, as a renovation of love and faith for them. Also, a must-see inside the basilica is the "Panteón de las Glorias del Norte" (The Pantheon of the Northern Glories), the place of rest of prominent personalities of Argentinian History, including the well-known hero Martín Miguel de Güermes.

San Bernardo Hill

Do you want to get the best view the city can offer? The place to visit is called San Bernardo Hill, an icon of Salta. To get there, I would recommend using the cableway. It is a great experience, and it provides a beautiful view of the city, plus it is quiet and romantic (if you are into that sort of thing). If that is not your cup of tea, you can reach it by using very long stairs. I would not advise you this if you are not fond of walking and stairs. If you do it though, it is an amazing thing to live the weather, the surroundings, and the sense of accomplishment when you are on top. Once you are on the top, many attractions can be seen including an artificial waterfall and the Christ, a huge statue of Jesus Christ that weights two-ton, also an icon of Salta. Surely, it will be a view that you will never forget.

Tren a las Nubes

I can not skip telling you about one special place, which is not in the city of Salta but the province. If you want an unforgettable adventure in Argentina, this is a must. The attraction is located in San Antonio de los Cobres, and its name means "Train to the Clouds". The locals describe it as a place between the land and dreams. But, what is all the hype about it? The attraction consists of a long train trip that takes you up to  4220 m above sea level. This is a very impressive engineering wonder and is surrounded only by beauty. The true marvel lays in watching and apreciating the land you are crossing. I will not spoil the experience by telling you more. Besides, I do not have enough words to describe how dreamy and beautiful it is.

Museo de Arqueología de Alta Montaña

The High Mountain Archeological Museum is a place to behold in Salta. The place is very famous because within its walls it keeps "Los Niños del Llullaillaco" (The Children of Llullaillaco), which are three Inca Mummies. The story of the mummies is very interesting and gives you an overview of the ancient Inca culture's beliefs. It seems that the kids were sacrificed in an Inca religious ritual. This sacrifice was called Capacocha, and it was a very important ceremony. Also, it was believed that if you perished this way, you did not truly die. You might ask yourself, why are those mummies in Argentina? Well, the children were part of a very long journey that probably started in Cusco, Perú and ended at the top of the Llullaillaco Volcano, where the children were found along over a hundred objects. Visiting this museum is an incredible and unrepeatable experience!
