At the heart of the Veneto Region, known for its nice food and wines, rich history and culture and lively atmosphere thanks to the many students, Padova (or Padua) is a true gem which it is worth a couple of days trip.
By strolling through Padova, you will get to breath and feel innovation and creativity, beauty and history and experience a projection towards the future while still being connected to the past; a pretty unique atmosphere not that common in the many other Italian cities. It is not a mistery that this city is the place where many interest personality have been born: Maurizio Cattelan -artist, Ippolito Nievo -writer, Galileo Galilei -scientist, Andrea Palladio -architect and St. Antonio of Padua -philosophist, among many others such Giotto who worked and lived here.
Students Life
Padova has one of the oldest and most rewarded university in Europe. Each year thousands of students move here in September for starting their academic year. Padova is magical all year long but in September it gets very special because of all the new people arriving and the many new initiatives along with them. If you rather enjoy some quiet time in this city, I would then suggest you to go in the week ends (many students won't be here but tourists will) or around Christmas time or summer time.
Best Food and Drinks
There are 3 things that you must try while in Padova: Bollito (long-boiled mixed meat based dish served with sauces and vegetables), Folipetti (mini squid to be eaten in the late afternoon) and Aperol Spritz of course! These delicacies are all Padova based and you will never be disappointed (especially by the Aperol Spritz!)
