History of the Paris Jazz Festival

In 1994, Franck Marchal, a French composer and producer, and Olivier Bastardie decided to create a very special jazz event in the heart of the City of Light. It was named originally “A Fleur de Jazz” (Jazz Flower) as this festival was situated in the Parc Floral de Paris, a beautiful public park and a botanical garden. But soon, in 1998, this summer music event changed its name to the Paris Jazz Festival and in 1999, the Delta, a large outdoor concert stage was inaugurated. From its very first edition, this festival had great success. The most famous French and international jazz musicians performed that year, from Didier Lockwood, Brad Mehldau to Richard Bona. In 2012 and 2014, the festival was chosen as the official host of the Annual “Victoires du Jazz” ceremony (the French equivalent of the Grammy Awards). Today, more than twenty years later, the Paris Jazz Festival is still one of the biggest jazz and music festivals in France.

Summer in the Parc Floral

Located in the Bois de Vincennes, The Parc Floral de Paris is a magical park and botanical garden extended over the surface of 28 hectares that transforms every summer into a real music festival playground. This green space hosts different events such as the “Pestaces”, dedicated to a younger audience, and the “Classique au Vert”, a classical music festival. But, the Paris Jazz Festival is one of its major summer events. There is a good reason why nature lovers appreciate this jazz festival so much. During the hot Parisian days, there is nothing better than to rest in the shade of the trees and, at the same time, listen to good music.
