History

Tbilisi Botanical Garden is located in the heart of the city, and it lies on the Tsavkisis-Tskali Gorge. When Jean Chardin, a French jeweler, traveled to Georgia, in his records, he mentioned this place as a Royal Garden. We have sources about the botanical garden from 1636 and the records about its development for 300 years. 

In the past, the royal family owned three different gardens on this territory. It was a favorite place for kings and their families to relax. However, time passed and this place became the state's property. From 1845, this territory has been united and named as Tbilisi Botanical Garden. A beautiful river Tsavkisis-Tskali divides the garden into two parts. The bridges connect them. The oldest bridge was built in the times when King Tamar ruled the country, and that is why it is called the Bridge of Tamar. Another bridge was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century on top of the waterfall.

It is one of the favorite activities of our visitors, as they can directly fly there. Starting with extreme, it is a nice contrast to appear in a calm place, where you can enjoy the sun and waterfall. You can also see the monument of Mother of Georgia from a totally different angle.
