Banská Štiavnica is a beautiful town with a rich history and a lot to do. But after a full day of exploring, everyone gets hungry, and that is why I would like to introduce you to 5 restaurants you should give a try while in Banská Štiavnica. There is no better way to get to know the country than tasting what local cuisine has to offer. Enjoy it!

Pivovar Erb

Pivovar Erb is a restaurant, a bar, a brewery, a theater and a hotel. That means you can have an amazing time, eat great food, drink a beer, see a play and then pass out, all without taking off your slippers. This place is simply amazing, and you can expect a family atmosphere. The whole idea started with a small pub, where people could enjoy a good beer after a long day. There were no plans for a restaurant or a hotel, but the demand was high, and soon it became one of the best restaurants in Banská Štiavnica. Owners of Pivovar Erb extended a restaurant with space for different kinds of art performances and built a few extra rooms for a future hotel with a spa. The main feature of this place is its own brand of beer - ERB. If you like beer culture, you can also opt for a degustation and learn something about the whole process behind making beer, as well as try different sorts. And if you like it, you can buy a bottled beer as a souvenir.

Monarchia Restaurant

Monarchia Restaurant is unique and has an added historical value because the building of the restaurant is also a national cultural monument called Senesiov dom. In the 16th century, it used to be a house of the Lutheran priest and poet Ján Senesis. In the upper part of the building, there is a contemporary art gallery. So, is there anything better than exploring local history and art while eating? I don't think so. In addition to the historical value of the object, the restaurant also has a beautiful garden with a patio and three different rooms for dining. They are serving mainly traditional Slovak food and different kinds of fish, but on the menu, you can also find some vegetarian options. The restaurant has wheelchair access, and it is baby-friendly.

4sochy

4sochy offers traditional Slovak cuisine with a modern twist. The restaurant has only a few meals on the menu, but they change daily depending on the availability of local products. Every ingredient comes from a nearby BIO farm, and you can be sure there are no frozen products and everything is fresh. The restaurant also has its own meat and dairy suppliers. Another cool feature of this restaurant is that they have an open kitchen, which means you can see a chef preparing your food right from scratch. From the outside, the restaurant doesn't really stand out, but as soon as you step in, you will enter the whole new world with a peaceful garden and a friendly atmosphere.

Lock-al

Lock-al is so-called “home restaurant”, and it is rare to see this kind of restaurant in Slovakia. The idea comes from the Scandinavian countries where the owners of the restaurant cook a meal for their guests, and then, they eat it all together at one table. So, you don't feel in a restaurant but like in your friend's home. Besides the unique concept, the food is amazing. There is no set menu, each day there is something different, depending on the mood of the owners. They are not professional cooks, but ordinary people who simply have a passion for good food.

COBURG coffee & burger

Probably the best burgers in the whole Banská Štiavnica are served at Coburg. Although burgers are their speciality, you can also find some rib eye steak and a daily soup here. Everything is home-made, even the bun or sweet potato fries. The restaurant is on the main square with a little patio. If you are not hungry, and you just want a cup of coffee with a dessert, no problem. Their coffee is actually great, and they also have espresso tonic, flat white and other Instagram-friendly types. Besides, the restaurant is located directly in the heart of Banská Štiavnica.
